SANTA MONICA, CA – The numbers are not completely in, but it’s growing increasingly clear: Aunt Man was a major failure.
With just 17 tickets sold the film, which had a budget just shy of $134M, was a success in the same way the XFL, clear soda, and Tom Green’s acting career were “unsuccessful.”
To make matters worse, analysts feel confident that at least half of the tickets sold were kids sneaking into other movies.
There were preliminary plans to make a sequel should the film do well — given the abysmal results, Uncle Boy has already been scrapped. The move leaves the studio with a hole to fill in its slate of Christmas movies, but early reports indicate that the cash-cow Air Bud franchise will be revived despite most of the original cast being dead.
